For many years spectators and fans have been debating over the best overall
quarterbacks, running backs, and defensive backs in America’s favorite game:
football. Ever since the first sprout of football, various all-stars such as
Bart Starr, Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, and Jerry Rice have left fans
in awe over their extravagant performances. Whether it be a one-handed
touchdown catch or a 72 yard run, it would be enough excitement to last a lifetime.
Yet over time old players lose talent and begin to retire, so new players
must rise up to meet the gargantuan expectations of viewers across the nation.
With extensive research, I have found the best receiver in the NFL, one who
has met these expectations and stands up amid many other imposters,
this receiver is Marvin Harrison.

Marvin Harrison, #88 on the Indianapolis Colts, is one of the elite receivers in the NFL.
With his amazing speed, incredible catching ability, and implausible talent to get open,
he can put any Defensive Back on their back. Marvin Harrison was drafted into the NFL in 1996 from
Syracuse University. In his first season as a professional football player Harrison had 64 receptions,
836 yards, and 8 touchdowns. He is now leading the Indianapolis Colts with 891 receptions,11701 yards,
and 105 touchdowns, this is the most by any other player in the history of the Colts. But statistics
is not the only thing that distinguishes good players from bad players, you must also take in
account how well one cooperates with his team. In all 10 years as an NFL receiver, Harrison has
never complained about his contract, never over celebrated a touchdown, nor has he offended any
team mate. Being a team player is a problem the NFL is facing now, with various players such
as Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, and Joe Horn who perform entertaining acts that Completely
obliterate their team. For example Terrell Owens, an all-pro wide receiver for the
Philadelphia Eagles, just recently was suspended for 4 games because he fought his own team mate
and threatened another. With such players as these it is hard to get what is needed for a team to accomplish.

The second best receiver in my opinion is Chad Johnson on the Cincinnati Bengals. Although Chad Johnson
does not have as much NFL experience as Marvin Harrison, he has amazing speed and quick feet to make up for it.
The Bengals haven’t been a very productive team until this present season. But now that the Bengals
have risen up and counter-attacked the horrid criticism of fans, the inconceivable talent of assorted
players has been exposed. The season has just started and Chad Johnson already has 53 receptions, 808 yards,
and 5 touchdowns. This is amazing for any player this early in the season. Also like Harrison, Johnson
is an amazing team player and works well with teammate Carson Palmer to get the credibility to be known as one
of NFL’s greatest tandems. Although right now Johnson is not completely equivalent to Harrison in talent, he has
shown signs that he is steadily improving. This is why he is one of the top receivers in my opinion.

The third best NFL receiver in my opinion is Randy Moss. Moss time after time again fulfills
the colossal expectations that fans have created. In 1998 Moss was drafted into the NFL and signed
by the Minnesota Vikings. In his rookie year Moss broke the rookie touchdown receptions record scoring
17 touchdowns in his first season. Moss is an astounding receiver because of his
amazing speed, strength, catching ability, and quick feet. But one thing is restraining him from
being a solid player, his ability to play as a team. Coach of the Decatur Bulldogs, Michael Tanks put
it this way,” There are two characteristics that make a rock-solid football player, their performance on
the field and how well he works with his team.” Tanks also mentioned that,” Although Randy Moss might
put up a lot better numbers statistic wise than other players in the NFL, his attitude brings the team down
far enough to account for the difference in stats.” Yet Moss has accomplished a lot of goals,
he has not grown physiologically enough to help a team grow and find the key essentials to winning.

During the vast span of my research I have learned the different characteristics needed to create a
successful football team. All these characteristics are contained by the very flesh and bone creation that
present day people in our society have named Marvin Harrison. Despite his age he still earns the critical
acclaim that he gets from viewers every where and I believe he will still try to obtain that acclaim until he
is noticed as one of the greatest players ever to walk this earth. For all the reasons In the previous paper
I have made my decision on finding the best receiver and I will continue to possess this stand until a new
player comes in to take the spot as the best receiver. But as for now Marvin Harrison is undeniably
the superior receiver.

I have chosen to divide my research paper into 5 paragraphs to explain the strengths and weaknesses of each receiver on my final top 3 list.

1.TITLE: The Inferior receiver
2.INTRODUCTION: I want my introduction to basically introduce the participants in my research and to tell what my project is about. This will be separated into 3 parts.
A.Explain what my paper is about and why its is important to our society.
B. Show the top three receivers that I found to be the best.
C. Thesis
a. Tell which receiver stood out from the rest

3.FIRST PARAGRAPH: This will be divided into 2 parts
A. First state again the inferior receiver and what team he is on.
B. Second tell why he earns the respect of being the top NFL receiver.
a. Various records should come in play including his strengths and weaknesses, if any.

4.SECOND PARAGRAPH: Tell about the runner-up and explain the reasons for him being on the top 3 list...The second paragraph is much like the first paragraph except that it compares this receiver to the individual inferior receiver.

5.THIRD PARAGRAPH: Exactly like the Second paragraph yet it is the third place representative.

6.CONCLUSION: This is the last and the most important segment of my paper I intend it to do the following:
A. Tell again the final conclusion of my research.
B. Tie the loose ends of my paper together.
C. Support the conclusion

Thus far my research has turned out incredible. I have looked up various records that were set last year by some of the top receivers in the NFL. I have also looked up stats and narowed down the race to find the best reciever. I bumped off Donald Driver from my top research list and i have put Eric Moulds onto this list because of his many accomplishments and records set. I still think i need to continue my research because i dont have enough Information to draw a conclusion. I am still sticking with my original idea and so far i am enjoying this project tremendicly.

A great primary source i can use for my research project would be an NFL reciever/coach to tell his views on which NFL reciever is the best and why..... this is important and reliable because the coach would have more knowledge about the topic than me...I have decided to interview coach Tanks, the head coach of the Decatur High Football team...I believe he will be a good primary source because he knows the tactics and stratigey of football so he would be able to distinguish the great recievers from the imposters.

When he retired, Rice held 16 regular-season National Football League (NFL) records, including touchdowns scored (208), passes caught (1,549), and yards gained by a pass receiver (22,895).

Jerry Lee Rice was born in Starkville, Mississippi, on Oct. 13, 1962. He played for four years at Mississippi Valley State University, setting 18 college records. In 1985, Rice was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. In the 1987-1988 season, he scored a record 22 touchdowns on pass receptions and led the league in scoring. He was awarded the Jim Thorpe Trophy as the NFL's Most Valuable Player that season.

Rice helped the 49ers win Super Bowls in 1989, 1990, and 1995 while setting game records for receiving yardage and touchdowns. San Francisco released Rice in 2001, and he joined the Oakland Raiders. I am thinking of doing my project on the following topic: I wonder who the best receiver is in the NFL at this time. To begin my research I am going to reaserch various recievers in the NFL and compare their stats and capabilities to each other. At the end of my reasearch i will find the most important charicteristics of each players and determine which reciever is inferior to the others.... the reasults will be extraordinary.
